Any ideas on the best sheets out there?

Thinking of getting high thread count sheets for my dad for Christmas but the reviews have been mixed for each kind I considered. I don't want to get him something I think is soft and comfy and have him be one of the negative reviewers. I thought I'd ask you guys. Thanks.
