Cyberbullying on a Picture, I sent it to their school, was this the right thing to do?

There was an unflattering picture taken of me at this other schools dance that I went to and some kids (who don't really like me because one I had a fling with and the other was his girlfriend when we had the fling. Of course I didn't know! but I had moved on and was at this dance with my now current bf) decided to put it up on facebook and write really mean comments on it, things like, "she looks like a rat" or "I would rather have with a dead bob cat" So I took screen shots of the comments and sent it in an email to their school. Was this the right thing to do? They're all in a lot of trouble now and I can't help but feel kinda bad.
