What happens to you between deployments in the army?

Yes, you get to go home but it's not like you are laid off or anything. There is a period of leave granted where the service person can go visit their next of kin, family and/or friends but once that is over they are due back on their Base where they undergo refit, training and depending upon their job, go back to work. Infantrymen would train, cooks would cook.
